USA Boys’ Puberty Education Book | Grow & Know

Bigger, Faster, Stronger, Hairier: A Book for Boys (2026)

Developed by adolescent health experts at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, Bigger, Faster, Stronger, Hairier was created through participatory research with boys across the United States. Combining boys’ experiences with evidence-based information, the book helps young people ages 9 to 14 understand the physical and emotional changes of puberty.

The book covers hormones, body changes, hygiene, nutrition, exercise, emotions, anger, healthy relationships, and common myths. Its illustrations and practical activities make complex information accessible without talking down to young readers. Sections on emotions and self-regulation also help boys recognize, express, and manage difficult feelings.

Designed for boys to read independently or with support from a parent, caregiver, teacher, or health professional, the book offers accurate, age-appropriate information that can help families begin conversations about puberty and growing up.
